4 Ways to Connect with Donors During COVID-19

During these uncertain times, gift planners have to get creative with how to connect with others. Social distancing has eliminated face-to-face visits, so it is important to find new ways to interact and stay connected with your donors. With modern technology, phone calls and mailings are not the only options available to relate with your supporters. Thankfully, there are social media and video conferencing tools available. It is important to understand what your donors are comfortable with and apply the best method.

1. Phone Calls

An encouraging and supportive phone call can really make a difference to your supporters during this time. We are all struggling with our new normal, so a friendly and familiar voice can make a person’s day. This may be one of the more common approaches that your donors may be comfortable with.

2. Send Out Mailings

Another way to reach out is by sending different types of mailings, such as postcards, to keep them engaged with your organization’s mission, while also conveying a supportive message. With people staying home, they are more likely to read the content you are sending out whether it be by mail or email. Using your enewsletters as a method of reaching out to a target group of donors can also be effective.

3. Schedule Video Chats

There are also a variety of video conferencing services if you are looking to find something that would compare to in-person visits. Many video conferencing services offer free service levels or trial versions. This is a great option as it feels like you are sitting in the same room together.

4. Social Media Posts

Social media can also be a great tool for staying connected with your supporters. Use social media to engage and generate posts about your organization’s mission. You may also remind your donors that we are all in this together, which can be a great way to relate to your audience.

These are unusual times, but we are all finding new ways to connect with others despite the social separation. I hope these tools are helpful to you as you continue to reach out to your supporters. Please remember that we are always here to help you!
